This past year, I have been reading The Whole-Brain Child by Daniel J. Siegel, M.D., and Tina Payne Bryson, Ph.D. This book explains - and makes accessible - the new science of how a child's brain is wired and how it matures. It also offers a revolutionary approach to child rearing with strategies that foster healthy brain development, leading to calmer, happier children. I believe this book is a great resource for parents, families, and educators. In fact, I was so excited about the information in this book that I presented, "The Upstairs Downstairs Brain in the Classroom," at the 2018 SEL Symposium, focusing on strategies teachers could use in the classroom to help children process emotions, and, in turn, support more optimal learning for all students.
